devreport vs ChatGPT
devreport vs ChatGPT for your hackathon PPT.
ChatGPT can now make slides on some plans, and it can write an outline on any of them. devreport turns a repo link into a finished deck with charts from your own data. Below is what each one does for a project or hackathon PPT, with links to the sources.
Side by side
What each one does for a hackathon or project deck. The numbered links go to the sources at the bottom of the page, checked on 23 October 2026.
| ChatGPT | devreport | |
|---|---|---|
| What it starts from | A chat, files you attach, an outline or a template.2 The GitHub connector reads repos in deep research and agent mode on some plans, and not in ordinary chat.6 | Paste a repo link from GitHub, GitLab, Codeberg or any other git host. Private GitHub repos work once you connect GitHub. Notes, CSVs, logs, screenshots and zips work too, with or without a repo. |
| Charts | Slides can hold charts you edit in place.2 The numbers are whatever ChatGPT put in them, so check each one against your data. | Plotted by tested code from the CSV and log files in your repo or uploads, so each value comes from a file. The model writes the words around them. |
| Hackathon templates | You can start a deck from a template.2 The PowerPoint add-in works inside a deck you have open in PowerPoint.5 | Rebuilds of the official idea templates for SIH 2026 and 10 other hackathons (CodeSprint 2026, Celestia, Build With Bharat 5.0 and more). You can also upload any .pptx template and the deck takes its colours, fonts and logo (2 credits). |
| Diagrams of how it works | It can lay out boxes and arrows when you ask. It knows your code only through what you paste, attach or connect. | Draws flowcharts and architecture diagrams of how the project works from the code and README, without being asked. |
| Change it by asking | Yes, and teammates can edit and comment on the same deck.3 | Yes. Leave a note on any slide and it revises the deck (1 credit a change). Fixing text on the page yourself is free. |
| Changing the look | Templates when you start a deck.2 Ask in the chat to restyle it. | 49 slide themes. Switching is instant and free, with no rebuild. |
| What you download | Export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides on the web, or present straight from ChatGPT.2 | A PDF, plus an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) file for 2 credits more. |
| Price | Slides is on the Pro, Business and Enterprise plans and was still rolling out in October 2026. Plus, Go and free accounts don’t have it.14 | 15 free credits on sign‑up (your first deck), then ₹49 for 30 credits (3 decks). No subscription. Free decks carry a small “Made with devreport” footer, which comes off after your first pack (or, with an event code, stays off until the event’s date). |
What ChatGPT does well
- It is the quickest way to think through a problem statement, and it writes a clean outline and speaker notes on any plan.
- On a plan with Slides, the deck, the chat and your teammates’ comments sit in one place, and you can export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides.23
- If your round hands you a PowerPoint file, the add-in can work inside it.5
Where devreport is different
- Paste the repo link and it reads the README and the code itself. You don’t paste files into a chat or need a particular plan.
- Charts come from the CSV and log files in the repo, drawn by code that reads the file. When something is missing it asks you instead of guessing.
- It can build the deck in the hackathon’s own template: rebuilt idea templates for SIH 2026 and the rounds on the hackathon templates page.
- It draws flowcharts and architecture diagrams of how your project works from the code.
- It is pay as you go with free credits to start, so one deck doesn’t need a monthly plan.
Which one to use
- Use ChatGPT when
- You want help with the idea, the outline or the speaker notes, or you already pay for a plan with Slides and your team edits together there.
- Use devreport when
- The deck is about code you wrote, with results in files, a hackathon template to follow and a deadline tonight.

Draft it from your repo or notes
Paste the repo link. If ChatGPT already wrote you an outline, add it as a note on the next page and the deck follows it. You get a PDF, and a PowerPoint file if you want one (2 more credits). 15 free credits on sign‑up (enough for your first deck). No card.
Questions
Can ChatGPT make a PPT?
Yes. ChatGPT Slides makes and edits decks you can export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides, on the Pro, Business and Enterprise plans. There is also a ChatGPT add-in that works inside PowerPoint. On other plans, ChatGPT can still write the outline and the text for each slide.
How do I make a PPT using ChatGPT for free?
Ask it for a slide-by-slide outline: a title and three or four points for each slide, in the order your round asks for. Paste that into Google Slides or PowerPoint and add your own screenshots and charts. You can also paste the outline into devreport as a note, and it builds the deck in that order from your repo.
Can ChatGPT read my GitHub repo?
OpenAI’s GitHub connector reads repos in deep research and agent mode on some plans, and not in ordinary chat. devreport reads any public repo from its link, and private GitHub repos once you connect GitHub.
Will ChatGPT get my numbers right?
It writes what fits the conversation, so check every number against your results before you submit. devreport draws its charts from the CSV and log files in your repo, and asks you up to three short questions when something is missing.
When should I use ChatGPT instead?
When you already pay for a plan with Slides and your team wants to write and comment in one place, or when the deck is about an idea with no code or data behind it yet.
What does devreport cost?
New accounts get 15 free credits. A deck costs 10 credits and each change you ask for afterwards costs 1; editing text on the page yourself and switching themes are free. A build that fails gives its credits back. After that, packs start at ₹49 for 30 credits, paid once, with no subscription.
