Zeroth review PPT
Zeroth review PPT: the first review, before the code.
At the zeroth review (review 0, or the first review at some colleges) the panel approves your project title. Usually nothing is built yet, so the deck has to show you understand the problem, have read the work before yours and have a plan that fits the semester. Below are the slides and the questions panels ask.
The slides, in a common order
Your department’s format sheet decides the final list. This order covers what most panels ask for:
| Slide | What goes on it |
|---|---|
| 1. Title | Project title, team members with register numbers, guide’s name, department |
| 2. Abstract | The problem, your approach and the result you expect, in about five lines |
| 3. Introduction | The domain in a few points, and why the problem matters to someone specific |
| 4. Problem definition | One or two sentences naming the user and what is missing for them |
| 5. Objectives | Three or four, each one you will be able to show as done at the final review |
| 6. Literature survey | A table: paper, method, result, limitation. Mark the base paper |
| 7. Research gap | What the papers above leave open, which your project addresses |
| 8. Proposed method | How you will do it, step by step, with the dataset or hardware named |
| 9. Block diagram | The parts of the system and how data moves between them |
| 10. Requirements | Hardware and software, with versions where they matter |
| 11. Work plan | A timeline from now to the final review, by week or by month, with who does what |
| 12. References | Every paper you cited, in the format your department uses |
What the panel asks at a zeroth review
- Why this problem? Have one real user or situation ready.
- What is your base paper, and what does your project add to it?
- Is the dataset available? Say where it comes from, or how you will collect it.
- Can you finish by the final review? The work plan answers this.
- What is new here? The research gap slide answers this. Keep it to one or two clear points.
Tips
- Pick a base paper from the last few years, from a journal or conference your guide accepts.
- Write objectives you can measure. The final review checks them one by one.
- Keep the block diagram simple enough to explain in a minute. It carries over to every later review.
- Agree the title with your guide before the review. A changed title often means a fresh approval.
For the reviews after this one, see the mini project PPT and final-year project PPT pages.
Draft it from your repo or notes
No code yet? Click “No repo? Start from notes” and add your abstract, the base paper and your paper notes. With a repo, paste it here. You get a PDF, and a PowerPoint file if you want one (2 more credits). 15 free credits on sign‑up (enough for your first deck). No card.
Questions
What is a zeroth review?
The first review of a final-year or mini project, held before the work starts. Some colleges call it review 0, the first review or the synopsis review. The panel approves your title and plan, so the deck is about the problem, the reading you have done and the method.
How many slides does a zeroth review PPT need?
Usually ten to twelve. Follow your department’s list if it gives one; some add slides for the institute’s vision and mission or an SDG mapping.
What is a base paper?
The published paper your project starts from: the method you will build on or improve. Many panels ask for one at the zeroth review. Name it on the literature slide and say what your project adds.
We have no code. Can devreport still make the deck?
Yes. A repo is optional. Give it your abstract, the base paper and your notes on the other papers, and the slide headings your department wants. It writes the deck from those and draws your block diagram.
Will it make up references?
No. The references slide lists only the papers and links you give it.
What does it cost?
New accounts get 15 free credits. A deck costs 10 credits and each change you ask for afterwards costs 1; editing text on the page yourself and switching themes are free. A build that fails gives its credits back.
