devreport vs Gemini
devreport vs Gemini for your project PPT.
Gemini can now make slides in Canvas and read a GitHub repo you import. devreport makes a deck from a repo link, with charts from your data and the hackathon’s own template. Here is what each one does, with links to Google’s own pages, so you can pick the right one before your PPT round.

| Gemini | devreport | |
|---|---|---|
| What it starts from | A prompt or an uploaded file.2 On a computer you can import one GitHub repo per chat (up to 100 MB and 5,000 files). It can’t read a repo from a link pasted into the prompt, and it doesn’t see the git history or pull requests.1 | Paste a repo link from GitHub, GitLab, Codeberg or any other git host. Private GitHub repos work once you connect GitHub. Notes, CSVs, logs, screenshots and zips work too, with or without a repo. |
| Charts | Canvas can add a chart when you ask.5 It uses the numbers it has in the chat, and nothing ties the chart back to a file, so check each value. | Plotted by tested code from the CSV and log files in your repo or uploads, so each value comes from a file. The model writes the words around them. |
| Hackathon templates | Gemini picks a theme for the deck. To use an organiser’s template, export to Google Slides and move the content into it there. | Rebuilds of the official idea templates for SIH 2026 and 10 other hackathons (CodeSprint 2026, Celestia, Build With Bharat 5.0 and more). You can also upload any .pptx template and the deck takes its colours, fonts and logo (2 credits). |
| Diagrams of how it works | It can draw one when you ask, from what you described or imported. | Draws flowcharts and architecture diagrams of how the project works from the code and README, without being asked. |
| Change it by asking | Yes. Ask in the chat and Canvas revises the slides.5 | Yes. Leave a note on any slide and it revises the deck (1 credit a change). Fixing text on the page yourself is free. |
| Changing the look | Gemini chooses a theme and images.2 Ask in the chat for a different look. | 49 slide themes. Switching is instant and free, with no rebuild. |
| What you download | Export to Google Slides, where the deck stays editable.2 Google’s Gemini Enterprise docs also list PowerPoint and PDF.3 | A PDF, plus an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) file for 2 credits more. |
| Price | Part of the Gemini app. Presentations came to paid subscribers first, with free accounts to follow.4 | 15 free credits on sign‑up (your first deck), then ₹49 for 30 credits (3 decks). No subscription. Free decks carry a small “Made with devreport” footer, which comes off after your first pack (or, with an event code, stays off until the event’s date). |
What Gemini does well
- It comes with the Google account you already have, and the deck lands in Google Slides, where your team can edit it together.2
- It is good at turning a rough idea into a first outline when there is no code yet, and you can keep asking it to rewrite.
- It can start from a document you already have, such as a problem statement or a report.2
- The repo import works on private repos once you link GitHub to your Google account.1
Where devreport is different
- You paste the repo link and the build starts, from a phone or a laptop, with any git host. A big repo still works: past the size limit it leaves out the large data files first and tells you which.
- Charts come from the CSV and log files in the repo, drawn by code that reads the file. When something it needs is missing, it asks you up to three short questions instead of guessing.
- It can build the deck in the organiser’s own template: rebuilt idea templates for SIH 2026 and the rounds on the hackathon templates page.
- It draws flowcharts and architecture diagrams of how your project works from the code.
- You get a PDF that looks the same on every laptop, and a .pptx if you need one (2 credits).
Which one to use
- Use Gemini when
- You have no code yet, your team works in Google Slides, or you want to brainstorm the idea and the outline for free.
- Use devreport when
- You have a repo, results in CSV or log files, or a hackathon template to follow, and the deadline is close.

Questions
Can Gemini make a PPT?
Yes. In the Gemini app, Canvas makes a slide deck from a prompt or a file you upload, and you can export it to Google Slides. From Google Slides you can download it as a .pptx. Google’s Gemini Enterprise docs also list PowerPoint and PDF as export options.
How do I make a PPT with Gemini from my GitHub repo?
On a computer, open the Gemini web app, choose Add file, then Import code, and paste the repo link. Then ask Canvas for a presentation about it. The import takes one repo per chat, up to 100 MB and 5,000 files, and it doesn’t work in the mobile app. Gemini won’t read a repo from a link pasted into the prompt, and it doesn’t see the git history or pull requests.
Does Gemini plot charts from my CSV files?
Canvas can add a chart when you ask, using the numbers it has in the chat. Nothing ties that chart back to the file, so check each value before you submit. devreport runs tested code on the CSV and log files in your repo and draws the chart from them.
Is devreport better than Gemini for a hackathon PPT?
For a deck about code you have written, devreport does more of the work: it reads the repo from a link, draws the charts from your data and the diagrams of how the project works, and can use the hackathon’s own template. For an idea-round deck with no code yet, or a team that works together in Google Slides, Gemini is a good choice and comes with your Google account.
Can I use both?
Yes. You could talk through the problem statement in Gemini, then paste your notes into devreport along with the repo link.
What does devreport cost?
New accounts get 15 free credits. A deck costs 10 credits and each change you ask for afterwards costs 1; editing text on the page yourself and switching themes are free. A build that fails gives its credits back. After that, packs start at ₹49 for 30 credits, paid once, with no subscription.
