Gamma alternative
A Gamma alternative for hackathon and project decks.
Gamma is a strong general deck maker. If your deck is about code you built, devreport starts from the repo link, plots the charts from your data and can use the hackathon’s own template. Here is how the two compare, with links to Gamma’s help pages.
Side by side

| Gamma | devreport | |
|---|---|---|
| What it starts from | A prompt, pasted text, web links, Google Docs and Slides, or Word, PowerPoint and PDF files.3 A git repo isn’t on the import list. | Paste a repo link from GitHub, GitLab, Codeberg or any other git host. Private GitHub repos work once you connect GitHub. Notes, CSVs, logs, screenshots and zips work too, with or without a repo. |
| Charts | Smart Charts: type the data into the chart editor or link a Google Sheets tab, and change the chart with the Agent.4 | Plotted by tested code from the CSV and log files in your repo or uploads, so each value comes from a file. The model writes the words around them. |
| Hackathon templates | Its own themes. Importing a deck brings in the text without its styling.3 | Rebuilds of the official idea templates for SIH 2026 and 10 other hackathons (CodeSprint 2026, Celestia, Build With Bharat 5.0 and more). You can also upload any .pptx template and the deck takes its colours, fonts and logo (2 credits). |
| Diagrams of how it works | A Charts & Diagrams menu, filled from your prompt or text.4 | Draws flowcharts and architecture diagrams of how the project works from the code and README, without being asked. |
| Change it by asking | Yes, with the Agent, which uses credits.1 | Yes. Leave a note on any slide and it revises the deck (1 credit a change). Fixing text on the page yourself is free. |
| Changing the look | A library of its own themes, switched from the editor. | 49 slide themes. Switching is instant and free, with no rebuild. |
| What you download | A web link, or PDF, PowerPoint and Google Slides. Exports follow Present Mode, and Google Slides swaps fonts.35 | A PDF, plus an editable PowerPoint (.pptx) file for 2 credits more. |
| Price | Free plan: 400 credits once, with no refill, and up to 10 slides per prompt. Paid plans refill credits monthly and remove the “Made with Gamma” badge.12 | 15 free credits on sign‑up (your first deck), then ₹49 for 30 credits (3 decks). No subscription. Free decks carry a small “Made with devreport” footer, which comes off after your first pack (or, with an event code, stays off until the event’s date). |
What Gamma does well
- Its layouts and web-style decks look polished with very little work, for any topic.
- Smart Charts are editable, and one can stay linked to a Google Sheets tab so the chart updates with the sheet.4
- It imports almost any document, so a report or an existing deck can become a new one quickly.3
- You can keep editing with the Agent, by hand, or in PowerPoint or Google Slides after export.15
Where devreport is different
- It starts from the repo link and reads the README and the code. You don’t write a summary for it first.
- Charts come from the CSV and log files in the repo without retyping, drawn by code that reads the file.
- It can build in the hackathon’s own template: rebuilt idea templates for SIH 2026 and the rounds on the hackathon templates page.
- It draws flowcharts and architecture diagrams of how your project works from the code.
- It is pay as you go in rupees with free credits to start, so one round’s deck doesn’t need a monthly plan.
Which one to use
- Use Gamma when
- The deck is about an idea, a document or a topic with no repo behind it, or you want a web-style deck and lots of visual layouts.
- Use devreport when
- The deck is about software you built, the results live in files in the repo, or the round gives you its own template.

Questions
Is Gamma free?
Gamma’s free plan gives new users 400 credits once. They don’t refill, and AI actions such as making a deck or editing with the Agent use them. A free deck can have up to 10 slides per prompt, and shared or exported decks carry a “Made with Gamma” badge until you pay.
Gamma vs devreport: which is better for a hackathon PPT?
It depends on what the deck is about. Gamma suits a deck you write from an idea or a document, where the design and the web view matter most. devreport suits a deck about code you built: it reads the repo from a link, plots the charts from your data files and can use the hackathon’s own template.
Can Gamma make a deck from my GitHub repo?
A git repo isn’t on Gamma’s import list. It takes a prompt, pasted text, web links, Google Docs and Slides, and Word, PowerPoint and PDF files, so you would paste in the README or a summary. devreport reads the repo itself from the link.
Does Gamma export to PowerPoint?
Yes, to PDF, PowerPoint and Google Slides. Exports follow Present Mode, so some things look different from the editor, and Google Slides swaps in its own fonts when you upload the .pptx.
Can I edit a devreport deck the way I edit in Gamma?
You can leave a note on any slide and it revises the deck, fix text on the page yourself for free, and switch themes instantly. To keep editing in PowerPoint or Google Slides, download the .pptx (2 credits).
What does devreport cost?
New accounts get 15 free credits. A deck costs 10 credits and each change you ask for afterwards costs 1; editing text on the page yourself and switching themes are free. A build that fails gives its credits back. After that, packs start at ₹49 for 30 credits, paid once, with no subscription.
